First of all, thanks to Joe and Janice Cosgrave for their absolutely wonderful leadership in getting us down to Cambria; they lead the wagon train. Although, there were a few glitches along the way such as: the Solis’ car wouldn’t start, the Hilton’s blew out a few under the hood items, and eventually at the end of the event the Cosgrave’s woodie was towed back to the barn. Overall, we had a wonderful and most relaxing weekend. Ed and Marilyn Bowman made it without a tow truck as did Kathy and Paul Lyons and all in great spirits! Ron and Patricia Dugger joined us at the Paso Robles Inn, which is a wonderful venue and meeting place. Phil and JoAnne Iatomase modeled what we hope will be 25th anniversary sweatshirts for our next big 2019 WOW and showed up in one of their beautiful woodies. The Benson family was there in spirit and body with Nikki and Christy dropping in throughout the show and Kathryn appearing in real time via the internet. At the Blue Bird (we made reservations already for next year), their fire pit was awesome and many a late-night story was told. Apricot bars and banana bread were provided thanks to Sue Vickery and Malinda Alves.
The event on Saturday permitted many of us to relax, enjoy the weather, and check out the woodies on display. Wayne (the upcoming president for the National Woodie Club) and Mary Jane Yada, Rick (the upcoming Santa Barbara club president) and Eliane White along with Don Iglesias (upcoming prez for the Santa Cruz club) connected and shared OMG stories of what is waiting for them in January 2019! At the show the 1946 Fords were out in large numbers or maybe it was me just noticing the 46 Fords like Sue and Jim Vickery’s with a coffee holder and chromed dashboard. Our new purchase of a 46 Ford (Woodeena as it is called) from Lynda and Doug Yugo was on her best behavior. Thanks to the Yugo’s!
We managed to shop almost until we dropped both in Morro Bay and Cambria in addition to antiquing as well as garden hopping for the most unusual succulent. Arlene Solis found a “pony” and Toni Wilkerson picked up some place settings for Easter celebrations. On our return voyage, Andi and Dave Welles took us to the Brown Butter Cookie factory in Cayucos and my only regret is that we didn’t buy a package of the peanut butter cookies! Dorma and Rowland brought Riley their pooch who joined in whenever he could.
Looking ahead on the calendar, our next event is the Santa Cruz Holiday Parade on December 1st. The Vickery’s will be on point leading the woodies through downtown Santa Cruz. After the parade it’s over to the Hilton’s for the ballot stuffing party. Coming in 2019 it’s our annual Installation Dinner on January 19th with Malinda Alves as point person and Arlene as our event coordinator. If you have a silent or live auction item for this event, please contact Arlene Solis.
